Nothing is safe with toddlers. Eli learned how to climb up onto his changing table this week. Vaseline, baby powder...etc. Everywhere. Nevermind the falling risk. If you're looking for something relatively clean and easy, try dot painters -- we use them in the highchair with the bib on. They're big and easy to grip and aren't that messy. They can also mix the colors a little.
